Special Children

A visit to the Special Unit in Kibaale Community Primary School will touch your heart like few experiences can.  There are two classes of 5 children each.  These are hearing impaired children, some of which have other learning disabilities as well.  Until they came to join the Special Unit, they were completely socially isolated in the community, as they could communicate with no one, not even family members.

The transformation in their countenance and behaviour is amazing as our two Special Unit teachers, Rosebella and Jessica work patiently and lovingly with them to open their eyes to learning through sign language.    IMG_2659
Justus is the youngest son of one of our staff members.  When he was three years old he suffered a severe case of meningitis which nearly took his life.  He has recovered very well and is mentally very bright.  He did not recover the sight in one eye that was damaged, however, and is now deaf.  His parents feared he would not be able to learn, and in the first couple of years after his illness he was often found crying, frustrated and upset…and fearful of class.  By God’s grace, through the care he has received he has grown into an energetic, happy young boy who is the leader in his class …Justus helps the new children to adjust and makes them feel welcome!IMG_2663 IMG_2670 IMG_2671

Pray for continued wisdom for our teachers as they develop new programs for these children who are eager to learn and experience a full life.
